A few years after the establishment of the Jewish community in San Jose, the need to build a cemetery arose.

That is why on 19 April 1931 the Israelite Cemetery officially opened, and to this day it continues to be active in neighboring land that it acquired throughout the years.

Due to the need to administer it and provide the necessary services, the first organized Jewish community group was the Chevra Kadisha in 1931.
This group has had the collaboration of many people, who have ever since helped voluntarily and selflessly.
