In June 1933 in Sao Paulom, a small group of German Jews created the Commission for the Assistance of Jewish Refugees from Germany.
Today the Israelite Paulista Society offers diverse activities and options for recreation to its members, by promoting conferences and programs, as well as courses in Portuguese, Hebrew, Jewish history and culture.
It also includes a hall that used to work as a restaurant.
